Using One

Voice

Talk to One instead of typing, and have One read its answers aloud.

You can speak your messages to One and have its answers read back to you. Both use Denizen Blu's own speech service, so they work the same in any browser.

Speak a message

  1. Select the microphone button in the message box.
  2. If your browser asks, allow One to use your microphone.
  3. Speak, then select the button again to stop.
  4. One turns what you said into text in the message box. Check it, then send it.

If you see "Microphone is not available", check that your device has a microphone and that your browser allows One to use it.

Have an answer read aloud

Hover over one of One's answers (or tap it on a phone) and select Read aloud. Select it again to stop.

Speech settings

Open Settings and go to Speech to adjust how voice works.

Under Speech to Text:

  • Auto send text sends your message as soon as One has transcribed it, without you pressing send.
  • Auto transcribe audio transcribes as you speak.
  • Speech-to-text language sets the language you'll be speaking.
  • Decibel threshold sets how loud you need to speak before One starts listening.

Under Text to Speech:

  • Voice chooses the voice One reads with. The voices are listed by code: names starting af_ or am_ are American female and male voices, and bf_ or bm_ are British (for example af_heart or bm_george).
  • Autoplay Latest Message reads each new answer aloud automatically.
  • Playback rate speeds playback up or slows it down.

Conversation Mode combines these for a hands-free conversation: One sends what you say and reads its replies aloud.

The Speech-to-text engine and Text-to-speech engine settings should stay on External, which is One's speech service. If you switch to Browser, voice quality and availability depend on your browser.

In the mobile app

The One mobile app has voice input and read aloud too, using the same speech service as the web.
