Checking an answer
Use Check hallucinations to have One review an answer's factual claims against sources.
Check hallucinations asks One to go back over an answer and check its factual claims against real sources. It's useful when an answer includes facts, figures, or dates you plan to rely on.
Check an answer
- Find the answer you want to check. It must be one of One's answers, and it must have finished.
- Select Check hallucinations (the shield icon) below the answer.
- One adds a review to the conversation, branching from that answer.
Your original answer stays in the conversation, and anything you were typing in the message box is kept.
What the review contains
One looks up sources with web search and your attached documents, then lists the answer's main claims. Each claim is marked:
- Supported: a source One inspected directly backs it up.
- Contradicted: a source says otherwise.
- Unverified: One couldn't confirm it, for example because a source couldn't be opened or there wasn't enough information.
Each claim comes with the evidence and a link or document location. Where the evidence shows the answer was wrong, One ends with a corrected answer.
If One couldn't search or open sources, the review says so instead of claiming the answer was checked.
A review helps you find mistakes, but it can still miss some. It never guarantees that an answer is error-free.
When the button is unavailable
The button is greyed out, and hovering over it explains why, when:
- One is still writing a reply, or you're editing a message.
- The answer hasn't finished saving yet.
- The answer has no text, or ended in an error.
- The answer is too long to check in one go (more than about 24,000 characters). Copy the passage you care about into a new message and ask One to check it.
If the check can't start, One shows "The check could not start." Wait for the conversation to finish, then try again.
