Getting around the app
The side menu, starting a new chat, searching, reading chats offline, home-screen shortcuts, and the layout on tablets.
This page shows where things are in the One app for Android. For how conversations themselves work, see Conversations.
The side menu
Tap the menu button (☰) at the top left of a chat, or swipe in from the left edge, to open the side menu. It has:
- New Chat and a search button at the top.
- Your conversations, newest first, grouped by Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 Days and so on. Chats that are still writing a reply are listed under Running, and chats you've starred are under Favorites.
- Links at the bottom, including Agents, Files and Settings, plus your account picture.
To change a conversation, press and hold it in the list. The menu that opens includes Rename, Share, Archive and Delete. Tap the star next to a conversation to add it to Favorites, or tap it again to remove it.
Archived chats are in Settings, on the Data tab, under Archived Conversations.
Start a new chat
Open the side menu and tap New Chat. Like the web, a new chat starts on One's Auto model, and the first screen has a Jury & Judge button if you want the Jury to answer instead. To pick a model, see Chats, files and images.
Search
Tap the search button at the top of the side menu and type at least two characters. The side menu shows matching chat titles and messages straight away. Tap See all results in Search to open the full Search screen, where you can filter by Messages or Chats. Tap a result to open the chat at that message.
Search looks through the chats saved on your phone and through One itself. Without a connection, it searches only the chats saved on your phone, and says Offline · cached chats only.
To search inside the chat you have open, tap ⋮ at the top right and choose Search.
For extra search options, such as match case, whole word and filters by date or model, open Settings, go to the General tab and turn on Advanced search.
Read chats offline
The app keeps your conversation list and every chat you've opened on your phone. When you lose your connection, a No internet connection banner appears, and you can still open and read those chats and search them. You need a connection to send messages.
If you open a chat that was never saved on your phone while you're offline, the app shows Messages unavailable. Tap Retry once you're back online.
Get chats ready before you go offline
The app can download your recent chats in the background, so they're ready to read without a connection:
- Open Settings and go to the Data tab.
- Under Background prefetch, tap Prefetch conversations and turn it on.
- Choose how many recent chats to keep under Depth.
- Optional: turn on Use mobile data to prefetch away from Wi-Fi, and Prefetch images to download images and attachments too. Images use a lot more data.
Prefetching runs while the app is idle, and from time to time while your phone is charging. Tap Warm now to run it straight away, or Activity to see which chats are saved.
Shortcuts on your home screen
- Your most-used models. Press and hold the One icon on your home screen to see shortcuts to the models you use most. Tapping one starts a new chat with that model.
- Artifacts. You can add an artifact, such as a chart or a small web page that One made, to your home screen. See Artifacts.
On a tablet
On a tablet, or a foldable phone when it's open, the side menu sits next to the chat instead of covering it. On a phone turned on its side, it opens and closes as usual.
To open the side menu on a tablet by swiping in from the left edge, open Settings, go to the General tab, and turn on Sidebar swipe gesture under Layout.
