Getting started

Get the app

What you need to run One for desktop on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer, how to download and install it, and how to remove it.

The Mac app is coming soon. One for desktop is available for Windows and Linux now. The Mac steps on this page describe the app as it will work when it launches. Until then, you can install One from your browser on a Mac.

What you need

  • Mac: macOS 13 Ventura or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon or an Intel processor.
  • Windows: Windows 10 or Windows 11, on a PC with an Intel or AMD processor, or on Windows on Arm.
  • Linux: Ubuntu, Debian or Fedora, on a 64-bit Intel, AMD or Arm computer. One is tested on Ubuntu 24.04, Debian and Fedora 44. On other distributions, the AppImage should work, but isn't supported.
  • A Denizen Blu account with access to One.

Download and install

Download the app from the One for desktop download page. It suggests the file for your computer, and lists them all:

  • Windows: One-Setup- followed by the version and .exe. It works on any Windows PC. For a smaller download, choose the file ending -x64.exe for most PCs, or -arm64.exe for Windows on Arm PCs, such as those with a Snapdragon processor. To check which you have, open Settings > System > About and look at System type.
  • Linux: on Ubuntu or Debian, the file ending -amd64.deb for Intel and AMD computers, or -arm64.deb for Arm. On Fedora, -x86_64.rpm or -aarch64.rpm. On other distributions, the AppImage: -x86_64.AppImage or -arm64.AppImage. To check which you have, run uname -m in a terminal: x86_64 or aarch64.
  • Mac: coming soon. It will be One- followed by the version and -universal.dmg, and run on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

After that, the app updates itself.

These links always download the latest version, which is handy for scripts and IT tools: https://help.denizenblu.com/download/ followed by windows, windows-x64, windows-arm64, linux-deb, linux-deb-arm64, linux-rpm, linux-rpm-arm64, linux-appimage or linux-appimage-arm64.

Mac

  1. Open the downloaded One disk image (.dmg).
  2. Drag One into your Applications folder.
  3. Open One from Applications or Launchpad. To keep it in your Dock, right-click its Dock icon and choose Options > Keep in Dock.

Windows

  1. Run the downloaded One Setup file.
  2. One installs and opens. It installs for your Windows account only, so Windows doesn't ask for an administrator.
  3. One appears in your Start menu. To keep it on your taskbar, right-click its taskbar icon and choose Pin to taskbar.

IT administrators can install it without any windows by running the installer with /S, for example One-Setup-1.0.0.exe /S. It still installs for the signed-in Windows user.

Linux

Ubuntu or Debian:

  1. Double-click the downloaded .deb. It opens in App Center on Ubuntu, or Software Install on Debian.
  2. Click Install, and enter your password if asked.
  3. Open One from your app grid.

The package adds One to your apps, so that denizenblu-one:// links open it.

Ubuntu or Debian, from a terminal. If you'd rather use a terminal, or you manage computers for others, install One from Denizen Blu's package repository. Updates then come through Software Updater or sudo apt upgrade, like your other software:

sudo install -d -m 0755 /etc/apt/keyrings
curl -fsSL https://packages.denizenblu.com/one.gpg | sudo tee /etc/apt/keyrings/denizenblu-one.gpg >/dev/null
printf 'Types: deb\nURIs: https://packages.denizenblu.com/apt\nSuites: stable\nComponents: main\nSigned-By: /etc/apt/keyrings/denizenblu-one.gpg\n' \
  | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/denizenblu-one.sources
sudo apt update && sudo apt install one

The repository is signed by Denizen Blu Linux packages, with the key fingerprint 7944 F0A6 9FEB 329A 8819 2072 DCF6 3AB8 C83E 882A. To check it, run gpg --show-keys /etc/apt/keyrings/denizenblu-one.gpg. The same steps, for apt and dnf, are on packages.denizenblu.com.

To install a downloaded .deb from a terminal instead, copy it out of your home folder first, for example cp ~/Downloads/One-1.0.1-amd64.deb /tmp/ and then sudo apt install /tmp/One-1.0.1-amd64.deb. Otherwise apt shows a harmless message; see Download is performed unsandboxed as root.

Fedora:

  1. Double-click the downloaded .rpm. It opens in Software.
  2. Click Install, and enter your password if asked.
  3. Open One from your app grid.

Fedora, from a terminal. To install from Denizen Blu's package repository, so that updates come through sudo dnf upgrade or Software:

sudo curl -fsSL https://packages.denizenblu.com/rpm/denizenblu-one.repo -o /etc/yum.repos.d/denizenblu-one.repo
sudo dnf install one

The first time, dnf asks whether to import the signing key. Check that it's Denizen Blu Linux packages with the fingerprint 7944 F0A6 9FEB 329A 8819 2072 DCF6 3AB8 C83E 882A before you accept. Once the key is imported, rpm -K followed by a downloaded .rpm's name reports signatures OK.

Other distributions:

  1. Make the AppImage runnable: right-click it, choose Properties, and turn on Executable as Program (or similar), or run chmod +x followed by the file's name.
  2. Double-click the AppImage to open One.

On Ubuntu 24.04 and later, the AppImage doesn't start, because Ubuntu blocks the security sandbox the app needs. Use the .deb or the apt repository instead. One never turns its sandbox off to get around this.

Next steps

Remove the app

  • Mac: quit One (One > Quit One), then drag One from your Applications folder to the Trash.
  • Windows: open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find One, and choose Uninstall.
  • Ubuntu or Debian: run sudo apt remove one. If you added the repository and want it gone too, run sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/denizenblu-one.sources /etc/apt/keyrings/denizenblu-one.gpg.
  • Fedora: run sudo dnf remove one. To remove the repository too, run sudo rm /etc/yum.repos.d/denizenblu-one.repo.
  • AppImage: quit One and delete the AppImage file.

Removing the app doesn't delete your conversations; they're stored with your account, not on your computer.
